Jared Diamond

Jared Diamond is a professor of geography at UCLA and author of the Pulitzer Prize winner: Guns, Germs and Steel - the fates of human societies - . I have read this book a couple of times. And find it still fascinating. It has learned me a lot about human societies, and why the world is like it is. We in the "West" had just the luck to be in the right climate zone and to have the "best" wild species for domestication at hand. That this "success" of the "West" has nothing to to do with being more intelligent than other humans on this planet.

I really can recommend this book.

At the TED website I came across the following interesting video. A short lecture by Mr. Diamond about why societies collapse.
